Every industry, every trade has specified tools and equipment essential to getting the job done.
For Naturalistas it’s no different.
In no particular order, here are the tools that the curlies of 3N use on an average week:
Juli-Anne- “I use a wide tooth comb in the shower to detangle and also my fingers. Very rarely, I’ll use a boar bristle brush very gently to smooth down edges.”
Noni- “Occasionally, I’ll use a wide tooth comb to detangle when my hair is soaking with conditioner during a wash session. I mostly use my fingers though. I also use scissors to snip out pesky single strand knots (grrr).”
Winnie- “I use a wide tooth comb with conditioner before I wash if I had a twist out, after that it’s pretty much just my fingers.”
Other 3N honorable mentions: bobby pins and goody ouchless elastics (absolute life/hair savers).
And there you have it, straight from the source!
Hope we haven’t disappointed you. It’s not dramatic or exciting but we all at 3N keep it pretty simple. Like with products, it’s easy, at the beginning of your journey to get dazzled and overwhelmed by all that’s available on the market. Over time though, we’ve found that basic is more than sufficient.
As with everything you have to experiment and find what works best for you.
Tools, products, regimens, etc are always subject to change.
To wrap this up, we all agree that the greatest must-have tools to healthy hair: Love, Patience, an ear to ‘listen’ to your hair and a spray bottle.
The End.
What tools do you use?
Three Naturals More than just your hair…

For now i’m just using my afro pick to pick out my hair.
Wide tooth comb for detangling when I wash my hair, plastic clips for sectioning when I wash my hair, ouchless hair ties, as you mentioned, and bobby pins…i can’t live without bobby pins lol.
